Dubuque Telegraph Herald – October 10, 1949

Charles E. Brown, 91, of 2108 Jackson Street, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Finley Hospital after a short illness. Private funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Haudenshield Funeral Home, 2170 Central Avenue. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Lyons, Ia.

Brown was born in Waterbury, Vt. On Jan. 13, 1858, and later moved to Mt. Carroll, Ill., and Fulton, Ill. For the past 35 years he has lived in Dubuque. He was a retired carpenter contractor.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Brown of Dubuque; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Ada) Bibs, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., and Mrs. Henry (Essie) Klett, of Dubuque; one son, John Brown, of Sunland, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded by five children.
