Verna Milroy Krueger, 100, of Monticello, formerly of Hopkinton, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Church, Hopkinton, where friends may call after 1 p.m. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home is caring for Verna and her family.

Surviving are her son, Jerry (Jean) Krueger, Monticello; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Boyd (Grace) Milroy of Vinton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dexter; four brothers and four sisters.

Verna Milroy was born Aug. 26, 1907, near Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel Andrew and Mabel Grace Creel Milroy. Verna was married to Dexter Raymond Krueger on May 30, 1934, in Manchester. She was a first-grade teacher in the Maquoketa Valley Schools for over 28 years. She had been a resident at Pennington Square and the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since 2001.
