Kenneth Benter, 77, died Monday evening, Jan. 5, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Hopkinton. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday morning at the church. Arrangements by Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Survivors include a brother, Irvin (Vivien) Benter of Monticello; two sisters, Janelle Knockle of Marion and Selma (Glenn) Welshhons of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arlan.

Kenneth Benter was born June 19, 1926, near Hopkinton. He was the son of Fred and Mary Kurth Benter. Kenneth graduated from the Hopkinton Community Schools in 1943. Kenneth was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years in Hopkinton. He retired in 1990. Ken was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. /tx
