William Beitz,91, died Monday morning, Sept. 20, 1999, in the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, after a brief illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Hopkinton United Methodist Church. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton.

He is survived by three children: Galen (Eleanor) Beitz of Hopkinton, Geraldine (Ray) Bley of Gilbert, Ariz., and John Max (Carol) Beitz of Hopkinton; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law, Elma Beitz of Hopkinton and Velma, Theresa and Wilma Bronemann, all of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother and two sisters.

William Glenn Beitz was born June 23, 1908, in Union Township, Delaware County, Iowa, near Hopkinton. He was the son of John and Lucy Wilson Beitz. Bill attended rural schools in Union Township and later graduated from Hopkinton High School. William G. Beitz and Edna Bronemann were married Dec. 19, 1931, in Gayville, S.D. The couple farmed on the Beitz family farm in Union Township near Hopkinton. Edna preceded him in death on March 6, 1989. Bill continued to actively farm until 1993. He had moved to the Good Neighbor Home in June 1999.

Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he had served in many church offices. He served for 65 years on the Board of Directors of the Citizens State Bank, Hopkinton. Over the years he also served on and was president of the Hopkinton Creamery Board and later the All Star Coop Board, Hopkinton Locker Association, Hopkinton Sale Barn Board and Hopkinton Community Club.
