HOPKINTON, Iowa - George A. Dircks, 84, of Hopkinton, died following a lengthy illness, Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Hopkinton, with burial in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton, where there will be a Masonic service at 8 p.m.

George was the founder of Dircks L.P. Gas Service.

Surviving are a son, Karmen (Linda) Dircks, of Hopkinton; a brother, Chris Dircks, of Chandler, Ariz.; a grandson, Steve (Lisa) Dircks, a granddaughter, Kathy (Buzz) Pounds, and six great-grandchildren, Robert and William Pounds, Nicole, Teri, Angie and Jeremy Dircks, all of Hopkinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille in 1990; and a sister, Frances Eaton.

Memorials may be given to Shriner's Hospital.
