Nellie Gayle (Davis) Gates was born on Sunday; September 2, 1923 in Ainsworth; Washington County, Iowa. She was the daughter of D. Rodney and Florence (Gesling) Davis. She received her education in the Washington; Franklin County, Iowa Schools where she graduated in 1941. Nellie Gayle Davis and Robert Gates were married on Sunday; June 18, 1944 in Washington, Iowa. The couple farmed for several years near Washington. They later lived at Kalona; Washington County, Iowa where they operated Gates Implement a John Deere and a Chevrolet Dealership, with his father and brother Kimbal. In 1948 the couple moved to a farm near Hopkinton. They retired from active farming in 1989. In October of 2004 Gayle's health caused her to move to the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello; Jones County, Iowa.

Nellie Gayle (Davis) Gates, 83, of Hopkinton passed away on Friday morning; February 2, 2007 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester; Delaware County, Iowa following an extended illness. Those left to mourn her passing are her loving husband, Robert of Hopkinton, Iowa. Two daughters, Margaret (Larry) Sheppard of Manchester, Iowa and Amy Jo Gates of Monticello, Iowa. Five grandchildren and six great-Grandchildren. Her sister, Jeanne Wallace, Mesa; Maricopa County, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Daniel J. Gates in 1990. May they rest in peace.

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday; February 4, 2007 at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Hopkinton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning; February 5, 2007 at the First United Church of Hopkinton with Rev. Ken Hartman officiating. Following services, Mrs. Gates will be laid to rest at the Hopkinton Cemetery in Kopkinton, Iowa. Thoughts, Memories, and Condolences may be left for the family at www.goettschonline.com
