HOPKINTON, Iowa - Carl Johnson, 63, of Hopkinton, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a long illness.

Remembrance services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with burial in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville.

Mr. Johnson owned and operated the Dyersville Auto Parts store (NAPA) for many years.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1942, in St. Charles, Ill., son of Willie and Willia Mae (Loop) Johnson. He married Mary Ethel Richardson; she preceded him in death.

He served in the Navy.

He was a plank member on the USS Enterprise. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6637 and Legion Post 0311 in Hopkinton. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

Carl was on the board of directors of the Dyersville Airport and one of its original organizers.

Surviving are his brother, Russell, of West Lebanon, N.H.; a niece, Ann Marie Smith, of Marion; a nephew, Jeffrey Russell Johnson, of Des Moines; and a special friend, Ann Millenkamp, of Dyersville.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.
