LUXEMBURG, Iowa - Louise F. Schmal, 95, of Dyersville, formerly of Luxemburg, died Sunday,

July 21, 2013, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where an American Legion and Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary will be recited at 4 p.m., and a parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m.

Louise was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Luxemburg, daughter of Nicholas and Veronica (Steffen) Hoffmann. She married Raymond Schmal on Feb. 11, 1947, in Luxemburg; he preceded her in death in 1976.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, the Layette's Quilters and American Legion Auxiliary.

Louise enjoyed painting, quilting, flowers and gardening.

Surviving are her son, Ronald (Anne Marie) Schmal, of Caledonia, Minn.; six grandchildren, Martin Schmal and Sarah (Dan) Miles, both of La Crosse, Wis., Korey (Ray) Rasmusson, of Boone, Karley Rasmusson, of Denver, Dakota Schmal and Steven Schmal, both of Caledonia; three great-grandchildren, Emileigh Hansel, of Boone, Wren and Tate Miles, both of La Crosse; in-laws, Virgie Hoffmann and Shirley (Arnold) Meyer, both of Dyersville, and Ilo Hoffmann, of Rock Island, Ill.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Gilbert, Clarence (Odeil), Lawrence, and Albin Hoffmann and Armella (George) Steffen; and in-laws, Kathryn (Bill) Neumann, Clarence (Marie) Schmal, Helen (Art) Berg, Aloysius Schmal, Marie (Elmer) Ruden and Martin (Lucille) Schmal.

Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
