DYERSVILLE, Iowa -Florence A. Scherbring, 88, of Dyersville, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at home, following a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Frances Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish scripture service will be at 4 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1916, in Worthington, daughter of Anton and Mayme (Tobin) Burger. She married Wilfred "Fritz" Scherbring on Sept. 23, 1946, in San Francisco; he preceded her in death in 1979.

She graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1934, and then attended the University of Dubuque to attain her teaching certificate.

She taught at Gearhart School. Florence also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Untz for many years and volunteered as a host maker at the Basilica.

Surviving are her son, Terry (Twyla) Scherbring, of Oelwein; a daughter, Becky (Carl) Schwendinger, of Dyersville; nine grandchildren, Melissa and Matt Scherbring, both of Bettendorf, Kate Scherbring, of Milwaukee, Sarah, Allyson and Lauren Schwendinger, all at home, Brenda (Lars) Antholz of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Benjamin (Stacey) Scherbring and Bryan (Becky) Scherbring, both of Omaha; and two sisters, Grace Wieneke, of Dyersville, and Ruth Green, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert Scherbring, in 2001; a grandson, Sam Schwendinger; three brothers, Charles Burger, Ray Burger, and Robert Burger; and two sisters, Helen Jarding and Lucille Hess.
