CASCADE, Iowa - Bernice Schaecher, 93, of 311 Johnson St. N.W., Cascade, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 4 p.m. There also will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Bernice received a teaching certificate and taught in rural schools. Later, she received a degree in cosmetology from Des Moines. She operated her own beauty shop in Dyersville.

She was born on Feb. 5, 1907, in rural Cascade, daughter of George and Rose (Troy) Rogers. She married Dr. A.P. Schaecher, a chiropractor in Dyersville, on July 7, 1941; he died on Sept. 19, 1954. A year after his death, she moved back to the family farm in Cascade. There, with her widowed brother, Orland Rogers, they provided family care for her two sons, Jim and John, and his two sons, George and Mike.

Since 1969, she resided in Cascade. She was a member of St. Matthias parish, Cascade, and was a member of its Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Cascade Catholic Daughters of America-Our Blessed Mother Court 1926.

Surviving are two sons, Jim Schaecher, of Graham, Wash., and John Schaecher, of San Francisco; her close nephews, George Rogers, of Roseburg, Ore., and Mike (Cleo) Rogers, of Cascade; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and 11 grand-nieces and nephews of George and Mike Rogers.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers and a grandchild.

A Bernice Schaecher Memorial Fund has been established.
