DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Viola R. Ries, 86, of Heritage Manor, Dubuque, formerly of 622 Second Ave. S.E., Dyersville, died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Heritage Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m.

She was born on May 16, 1913, in Dyersville, daughter of Herman and Margaret (Reigtinger) Steger.

She married Edmund Ries on June 16, 1942, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Dyersville. They farmed in the Holy Cross area until their retirement, when they moved to Dyersville.

She received her education in the St. Francis schools, Dyersville. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Dyersville, and its altar and rosary society.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-laws, Lucille Keppler, of Strawberry Point, Marie Schmidt, of North Buena Vista, Rosie Link and Delores Tigges, both of Dubuque, Elmer and Annie Ries, of Dyersville, Irvin Keppler, of Arlington, and Armella Ries, of Strawberry Point.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Ries, on May 30, 1987; her parents; two sisters, Mildred Fangmann and Lorraine Steger; two brothers, Irvin Steger and Delmus Steger; and sister and brother-in-laws, Florence Keppler, Gilbert Ries, Wilfred Schmidt, Herbert and Martha Weidemann, Oscar Tigges, Arnold Link, Hubert Fangmann and Armela Steger.

A Viola R. Ries Memorial Fund has been established.
