DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Wayne A. Recker, 80, of Dyersville, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. and an American Legion Post 137 will conduct a service at

7 p.m. Friends also may call after 7 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1931, in Dyersville, son of Arthur and Rose (Bildstein) Recker. Wayne served in the Army from 1952 to 1954.

He married Joann C. Clemen on Sept. 18, 1956, in Luxemburg. Together they farmed southwest of Dyersville; she preceded him in death on July18, 1972. He moved to Dyersville in 2000.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 7736.

Wayne loved riding his motorcycle, bowling, playing cards and going to the local family restaurant to visit with his breakfast buddies.

Surviving are his children, Al (special friend, Kim Schnittjer) Recker, of Dyersville, Sherry (Andy) Berger, of Colesburg, and Ann (John White) Recker, of Earlville; a special friend, Martha Huber, of Delhi; six grandchildren, Brandi and Allison Recker, Josh and Tim Amling, and Derek and Jordan Bahls; three great-grandchildren, Dallas, Dillon and Braxton; five brothers and sisters, Jeanette (Tom) Bell, Bill (Kay) Recker, Vernon (Mary Ellen) Recker and James (Jane) Recker, all of Dyersville, and Rose Ann (Sidney) Smith, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; five brothers-and sisters-in-law, Doris (Len) LeConte, of Dubuque, Herb (Mary Ann) Clemen, of Dyersville, Dennis (Valerie) Clemen, of Madison, Wis., Ken (Jan) Clemen and Ron (Diane) Clemen, both of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.
