DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Anthony J. "Tony" Recker, 84, of 1325 Fourth St., SW, Dyersville, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at home, due to congestive heart failure.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Blake, officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m., and the Dyersville Fire Department will meet at 6 p.m. Friends also may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Recker farmed in the rural Dyersville area until his retirement in 1980.

He was born on Sept. 12, 1917 on the family farm in rural Worthington, son of Anton J. and Elizabeth (Trenkamp) Recker. He received his education in the rural school in the Worthington area. On June 3, 1941, he married Luella Schulte at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sand Springs.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Dyersville. Tony enjoyed his family, traveling, playing cards and dancing. He often commented that, "He lived his entire life in view of the steeples of the Basilica."

Surviving are five sons, Ron (Nancy) Recker, of Humboldt, Don (Ruth) Recker, of Dubuque, Glenn (Linda) Recker, of Asbury, Roger (Rosemary) Recker, of Earlville, and Randy (Lynn) Recker, of Dyersville; three daughters, Ruth Ann (Jim) DeShaw, of Huntsville, Texas, Lue Ann (Charlie) Bruggemann, of Grinnell, and Lynne (Ken) Krogman, of Worthington; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Gaul, of Oakcrest Manor, Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Luella Recker, on July 17, 1995; five sisters; and seven brothers.

An Anthony J. "Tony" Recker Memorial Fund has been established.
