DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Gilbert Rahe, 83, of Dyersville, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 1, 1998, at Edgewood (Iowa) Convalescent Home, after a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish rosary service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Rahe was born on April 5, 1915, in Dyersville, son of Anton and Rose (Drees) Rahe.

He married Florabelle Klostermann on Sept. 3, 1940, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Dyersville. Their marriage was blessed with 11 children. Together they farmed east of Dyersville for 50 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and served on the board of directors for the Farmer's Shipping Association, Dyersville, for 25 years.

Surviving are his wife, Florabelle; eight daughters, Mary Kay (Peter) Matisheck, of Fort Dodge, Lois (Don) Noel, of Dubuque, Doris (Gary) Brown, of Evanston, Ill., Janet (Bill) Hennekens, of Minnetonka, Minn., Marsha (Mark) Hauser, of Edgewood, Carmen (Jim) Epstein, of Chatham, Ill., Colleen (Ron) Mormann, of Marion, and Michelle Rahe, of Johnston; three sons, John (Nikki), Dewayne (Krystal) and Keith (Jacque) Rahe, all of Dyersville; 27 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Evelyn Pape, of Dubuque, and Eileen Hermsen, of Farley; a brother, Tony (Rosemary), of Dyersville; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Rahe and Agnes Rahe, both of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gerald, Leo and Leroy; and a sister, Dolores Krapfl.

Gilbert will be remembered for his dedication to the farm, reverence for his faith and devotion to his family.
