Joanne K. Putz, 77, of La Crosse, Wis., formerly of the Dubuque area, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Roncalli Newman Center of La Crosse, with the Rev. Alan Wierzba officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday at the church. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1934, in rural Dubuque County, daughter of Reynold and Callista (Keane) Offerman. She married Jim Putz on Sept. 7, 1957, in Dyersville, Iowa.

Joanne was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her family, children and grandchildren. In recent years, she and Jim were able to travel internationally, and she particularly enjoyed her trips to Ireland.

Surviving are her husband, Jim, of La Crosse; her five children, Kathy Putz, of Sydney, Mary Jo (Scott) Schafer, of Edmonds, Wash., Tom (Amy) Putz, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Alice (Joe) Oberbroeckling, of Sheboygan, Wis., and Sally (Sam) Duray, of Mount Prospect, Ill., and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert and Charles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated to the "Room To Read" program in Sydney, where her daughter Kathy volunteers.
