DYERSVILLE, Iowa - On Aug. 12, 1998, our beloved son, Austin Michael Oberbroeckling, 6-year-old son of Mike and Sandy Oberbroeckling, of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., became one of God's angels after a four-year challenge of cancer. He went on to Heaven's gates from home with his family at his side.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Ed Petty officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m.

Austin was born on Oct. 22, 1991, at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., the first child of Mike and Sandy (Pitz) Oberbroeckling.

He moved with his family to Spokane, Wash., in 1994. Austin was a student at Lake Spokane Elementary and was a member of the LSYRA baseball league. He had a passion for playing baseball, fishing with his dad, Bugs Bunny, Beanie Babies, Nickelodeon and his family and friends.

Austin was a very caring and thoughtful little boy, touching everyone with a special piece of his heart. We love him so very much and miss him already.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Hunter, of Nine Mile Falls; his paternal grandparents, Tom and Joanne Oberbroeckling, of Dyersville; his maternal grandparents, Bob and Dorothy Pitz, of Epworth; a great-grandfather, Ray Brimeyer, of Dyersville; a paternal aunt, Sue (Larry) Soppe, of Dyersville; a paternal uncle, Pat (Angie) Oberbroeckling, of Dyersville; his maternal aunts and uncles, Lynn (Dean) Figg, of Davenport, Bill (Lynn) Pitz, of Farley, Lori (Rick) Burns, of Lee Summit, Mo., Lisa (Jay) O'Brien, of Cedar Rapids, Susie (Ronnie) Kramer, of Epworth; Jim (Lisa) Pitz, of Grimes, Barb (Doug) Koerperich, of Riverside, Bobbie Pitz, of Davenport, and Jacque Pitz, of Epworth; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Gregor and Ceil Oberbroeckling, Alvina Brimeyer, Bill and Marie Pitz, and Leander and Isabelle Koch.

An Austin M. Oberbroeckling Memorial Fund has been established.
