DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Louis O'Connor, 63, of the Philippine Islands, formerly of Dyersville, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at home in Angeles City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736 of New Vienna. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. and the VFW Post 7736 service at 7 p.m.

Mr. O'Connor's career spanned service in the Army, the Corps of Engineers and as a foreign diplomat for the United States Department of State, until his retirement. As a diplomat, he was assigned to Haiti, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Grenada.

He was born on Jan. 18, 1939, in Dyersville, son of Verni and Elva (Hansel) O'Connor. He graduated from Xavier High School and the University of Iowa College of Engineering.

He was a life member of the VFW.

Surviving are two brothers, Frank (Darlene) O'Connor, of Dyersville, and Bernard (Jean) O'Connor, of Mundelein, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Nancy O'Connor, of Ankeny; and four nephews and seven nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1947; his mother in 1980; and a brother, Dr. Lowell O'Connor, in 1975.
