DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Maurice E. Noonan, 88, of Dyersville, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in

St. Francis Cemetery, military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish scripture service will be at 4 p.m., an Ancient Order of Hibernians service will be at 6:30 p.m. and the Dyersville Legion Post service will be at 7 p.m.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1918, in Eagle Grove, son of Maurice E. and Ina (Campbell) Noonan. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1936, and the University of Notre Dame in 1940, with a bachelor of philosophy degree. After graduation, Maury worked in Chicago until he joined the Marine Corps, in 1942, as a combat fighter pilot. He also attended the journalism program at Iowa State University, in 1947, and worked for the late Maurice Crabb with the Eagle Grove newspaper.

After his return from World War II, he married the light of his life, Helen Lippens Kolls, on Aug. 13, 1960, in Webster Grove, Mo. Together they owned and operated the Dyersville Commercial from 1957 to 1984. He was a member of the Dyersville Commercial Club, DACC, Dyersville Development and a charter member of both the Eagle Grove and Dyersville Lions Clubs. He served on the board of Iowa Newspaper Association, was active in the hospital planning and doctor procurement in the 1950's & 1960's. He was on the St. Pat's committee since inception. Maury also was a charter member and first president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his stepson, Jeff Kolls, of Corpus Christi, Texas; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Lee) Williams, of Houston, Texas, and Susan (Matt) Ryan, of Beaumont, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Brandon and Sara Williams and Nicholas Ryan; two brothers, Jim Noonan, of Eagle Grove, and Dick Noonan, of Humboldt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen, in 2004; and two sisters, Mary Jean Noonan and Annabell Tomke.

Memorials may be given to the Haiti Fund.
