Funeral services for Merlyn R. Sundermeyer, age 44, of Mason City, Iowa were held Friday, April 1 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa with Rev. Frederick Wood officiating. Burial was at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.

Merlyn R. Sundermeyer, son of Martin and Ethel (Scovel) Sundermeyer, was born April 17, 1949 in Manchester, Iowa. He was raised in Delaware and graduated from the Maquoketa Valley, Delhi School in 1967. He married Becky Fjelstul on September 2, 1973 in Delaware, Iowa. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Management from the University of Northern Iowa in 1976. He worked 20 years in retail grocery stores, including three years as manager of the Farmer's Store in Postville, Iowa. He was very active in civic and service organizations, including various school and church groups such as the Commercial Club and the Optimist Club in Postville, Iowa. Merlyn was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and bike riding. He currently served on the board of finance at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa and was secretary/treasurer of the Early Risers Bowling League.

Merlyn R. Sundermeyer died March 29, 1994 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Merlyn is survived by his mother, Ethel Sundermeyer of Delaware, Iowa; his wife, Becky Sundermeyer, 2 sons, Eric Sundermeyer and Chad Sundermeyer, and 1 daughter, Dyan Sundermeyer, all of Mason City, Iowa; 2 brothers, Richard (Linda) Sundermeyer of Marion, Iowa and Roger (Charlotte) Sundermeyer of Center Point, Iowa; and several aunts, uncle, nieces, and nephews.
