Floyd Smith of Edgewood, Iowa, died on Friday, July 3, 2009. He was born on June 28, 1917, in rural Garber, Iowa, the son of Winfrey and Minnie (Hansel) Smith. He was raised in Garber and attended rural country school. Floyd worked as a general laborer and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. Floyd worked for the United States Post Office and Spahn & Rose Lumber Company in Edgewood until his retirement.

On April 17, 1948, Floyd was united in marriage to Victoria Funk at St. Mark’s rectory. Six children were born to this union. Floyd was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, the Edgewood American Legion, and the Eagle’s Club. He also was a volunteer fireman in Edgewood for many years.

Survivors include five daughters, Rosita Kleaveland of Waterloo, Minnie (Mike) Fannon of Edgewood, Lori Smith of West Des Moines, Mary (Dave) Kirby of Edgewood, and Jeannie (Allan) Johnson of Strawberry Point; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grand children.; one sister, Velma “Peggy” Culbertson of Edgewood; a half-sister, Virginia Bailey of Cedar Rapids; and a step-brother, Everett Hansel of Strawberry Point.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Smith; an infant son; his parents; and one brother, Chester Smith.

Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. July 07, 2009 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home - Edgewood, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. July 08, 2009 at St. Mark's Catholic Church - Edgewood, Iowa. Friends may call one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Interment: July 08, 2009 at St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery - Edgewood, Iowa.
