Willard Henry Steen 1918 - 2009

Willard Henry Steen, 90, of rural Fayette, Iowa, died at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein on Saturday, June 6, 2009. He was born on December 29, 1918, the son of William and Lena (Lundt) Steen. He graduated from Elkader High School.

On September 2, 1940, Willard was united in marriage to Ina Morley. After their marriage they lived with Willard’s parents for a couple of years, working for various farmers in the Martel, Edgewood, and Wood Center communities. Willard and Ina then started farming for themselves on several farms near Communia, Littleport, rural Manchester, and settling in rural Fayette County for over fifty-five years.

Willard loved to fish, hunt, dance, listen to polka music, and watch sports.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Steen of Fayette; one daughter, Patricia Hankins of Littleport; and seven sons, Willard (Janice) Steen and Lydell (Constance) Steen of Pineville, Louisiana, Leslie (Mary) Steen of Poplar Grove, Illinois, Arlyn Steen of Maxton, North Carolina, Dale (Charlotte) Steen of Oelwein, Marlin Steen of Fayette, and Daryl (Debbi) Steen of Laurel, Maryland; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lelund Steen of Elkader; sisters-in-law, Ilo Moser of Edgewood, Irma (Harley) Glawe of St. Olaf, and Una (George) Porter of Edgewood; and one brother-in-law, Lyle Morley of Osage.

Willard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lena Steen; one daughter in infancy, Nancy Arlene; and a son-in-law, Cecil Hankins.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. until service time June 10, 2009 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home - Edgewood, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. June 10, 2009 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home - Edgewood, Iowa
Interment: June 10, 2009 at Hansel Cemetery - Rural Garber, Iowa.
