Andrew “Andy” Francis Bockenstedt was born December 2, 1952, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Clemens J. “Jack” and Joan Eustella (Nehl) Bockenstedt. Andy was raised on a farm outside of Backbone State Park near Strawberry Point. He graduated from West Delaware High School with the Class of 1970.
On August 2, 1980, Andy was united in marriage to Janet Timmer at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Edgewood. After their marriage, they made their home in Strawberry Point. Andy worked for Henderson’s Manufacturing in Manchester for over thirty years as a senior fabricator, until 2006, when he had to quit due to health reasons.Andy died on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was fifty-six years of age.
Andy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. Andy loved to fish and put together puzzles, and read western novels. He also enjoyed visiting with friends over pop and coffee, and he loved to cut wood.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Bockenstedt of Strawberry Point; his daughter,Cecelia (Adam) Boleyn of Strawberry Point; his son, C.J. Bockenstedt of Independence; two grandchildren, Brooke Bockenstedt and Holly Boleyn;three brothers, Steve (Mary) Bockenstedt of Manchester; Tony Bockenstedt (Friend Sandy Davis) of Masonville; Pat Bockenstedt of Strawberry Point; two sisters, Virginia (Mike) Keppler of Strawberry Point; Dianne (David) Otdoerfer of Strawberry Point; several aunts and uncles; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two nieces; one nephew; and one brother-in-law, Don Timmer.
