Edward W. Wedewer, 80, of Dyersville, died Tuesday morning April 14, 1998, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Dyersville after a sudden illness.

Friends called from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where the parish scripture service was held at 4:30 p.m., a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:15 p.m. and an American Legion service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery where the American Legion Post 137 accorded military honors. Officiating was Rev. Fred Fangmann, Rev. Ed. Petty and Rev. Ken Gehling concelebrated. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Susan Collins, Jeanne Lesperance, Tim Ertl, Brian Wedewer, Cindy Corson, Laura and Adam Feld, Jonathan and Matthew Southwood and James T. Wedewer. Honorary pall bears representing the Knights of Columbus were Ed Mescher, John Brueckner, Ray Reicher, Don Meyer, Joe Schlichte and Pat Scherrman.

Mr. Wedewer was born June 19, 1917 in Dyersville, the son of Bernard and Josephine (Schlarmann) Wedewer. He married Germaine Mormann on Sept. 18, 1939, in Petersburg. Ed was a contractor from 1946 until his retirement in 1979. Ed was a 53-year member of the American Legion Post 137, a member of the Dyersville Country Club, St. Francis Xavier Basilica parish, Master Builders of Iowa of the AGC and the Iowa Motel and Hotel Association for many years. Ed was a veteran of World War II and a P.O.W. in Germany in April 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Germaine; three daughters, Ruth (Elmer) Rausch of Jackson, TN, Nancy (Bill) Feld of Dayton, OH, Linda (Brian) Southwood of Dubuque, one son, Tom Wedewer of Pine Mountain Club, CA, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Marabeth) Wedewer of Tallahassee, FL, Robert Wedewer of Freehold, NJ; a loving nephew, Rev. Fred Fangmann, and other nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Alfred (Duke), Walter and James Wedewer and an infant son.
