TWO SISTERS DIE WITHIN ONE WEEK
Earlville, IA May 13, 1942
Miss Kate Kelly died May 8 and Miss Mary Ellen Kelly died May 11 1942.

Two sisters, Misses Kate and Mary Ellen Kelly passed away within a week's time.

The death of Miss Kate Kelly occurred on Friday am, May 8, 1942 after an illness of five weeks. She was born at Dyersville on April 3, 1856 and was 86 years of age. She received her education in the rural and parochial schools and when a child, moved with her parents onto a farm on North Fork twp where the greater part of her life was spent. She has been a resident of Earlville for 43 years. The cause of death was mostly due to old age.

Miss Mary Ellen Kelly, whose demise occurred on Monday, May 11 was born at Utica, NY in Oct 1853 and was 88 years old. When a child she moved with her parents to Iowa. Practically all her life was spent in Delaware County. She attended the rural and parochial schools. Her demise was also due to old age. Both sisters are survived by one brother, Jacob Kelly of Earlville and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral of the two sisters took place Tuesday morning May 12 from their late home to St. Joseph's Church at 9:00 where requiem High Mass was sung for the repose of their souls by Rev. Father Meyerhofer, the pastor, after which interment was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Father Meyerhofer also officiated at the graveside. The casket bearers for Miss Kate Kellywere were six nephews: Messrs. Floyd Goldsmith, George Goldsmith, Urban Kelly, Worthington: James Klaus, James Kelly, and Justine McElmeel, Earlville. Casket bearers for Miss Mary Ellen Kelly were six nephews: Messrs Bert Thibadeau, Ed McElmeel, Bernie Goldsmith, Mark Kelly, Art Goldsmith and Norton Klaus.

The death of these two ladies marks the passing of two of Delaware County's pioneer residents. Both were widely known and highly esteemed. Staunch Catholics, both died well fortified with the last Sacraments of the church and were well prepared to meet their Maker.
