George Elmer Hundley, son of Luther and Margaret Hundley, was the youngest of ten children. He was born June 15, 1879, near Manchester, Iowa, and passed away Sept. 30, 1943, at the University Hospital in Iowa City after a long illness. When he was yet very young, the family moved to the old Hundley homestead south of Aurora. With the exception of two years at Syracuse, New York, George lived in or near Aurora. He farmed for some time but most of his time he worked at the carpenter trade.
On Sept. 2, 1913, he was united in marriage with Anna Margaret Newton. Five children were born to this union, Derrill, Clifford, Lois and Marvin. One child died at birth. Derrill and family live in St. Paul, Clifford is Staff Sgt. in the army, in Bermuda; Marvin and Lois at home. George was a devoted husband and father. He was a member of the local Baptist church.
Survivors are his wife Anna, and the four children, 2 grandsons, 3 sisters, Mrs. Addie Miller of Aurora, Mrs. Mattie Whitman of Manchester, Mrs. Nora Miller of Glendale, California; 3 brothers, Charles of Clay Center, Kansas; Will of Manchester, Fred of Pine River, Monnesota. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and John, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Miller.
Funeral services were held from the Baptist church at Aurora Sunday, Oct. 3 with Rev. B.H. Thorlakson in charge. Mrs. Dale Miller and Mrs. Paul Hoaglan sang requested hymns, "Beautiful Isle," and "Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. Al Tennis. Burial was at Spangler cemetery. Pall bearers were James Taylor, John Potter, Lloyd Prindle, Carl Potwin, Orville King and Geo. Richardson.
