February 10, 2008Father Robert Davies, 60, buried in Hampton
EDGEWOOD – Funeral services for Father Robert F. Davies, 60, pastor in Colesburg and Edgewood, were Friday, Feb. 8, at St. Mark Church, Edgewood. Archbishop Jerome Hanus, OSB, was the principal celebrant.
Father Davies died on Sunday, Feb. 3, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
On Sunday, Feb. 9, there will be visitation at St. Patrick Church in Hampton, 9-11:30 a.m., concluding with the Rite of Committal. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton.
Father Davies was born Aug. 6, 1947, to Robert and Kathryn (Karaus) Davies of Hampton. He attended Hampton Community High School.
He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque in 1969 and took his theological training at The St. Paul Seminary, University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., 1996-2000.
Prior to entering the priesthood, he worked for the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Washington, D. C. He was also assistant chief clerk of the House of Representatives in Des Moines, director of marketing for Davies Mfg. Co., executive director of the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce, and Franklin County auditor.
He was ordained June 3, 2000, at St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque by Archbishop Hanus.
He served as associate pastor of St. Edward Parish, Waterloo, 2000-2001; and Resurrection Parish, Dubuque, 2001-2003.
He was pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Maquoketa 2003- 2004.
He was on special pastoral ministry, 2004-2005, while dealing with health issues.
He had been pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Colesburg and St. Mark Parish in Edgewood since 2005.
He was a member of Kiwanis Club of Downtown Dubuque, past president of Kiwanis Club of Hampton, past lieutenant governor of Kiwanis, fourth degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the Iowa Division of American Cancer Society Board of Directors and served as treasurer.
He was a graduate of Leadership Iowa, involved in the Democratic Party, and past member of numerous community organizations. He was an avid reader, Bridge player, and golfer.
He is survived by two brothers and a sister, Jim Davies and May Menning of Hampton and John Davies (special friend Onna Robinson) of Clearwater, Fla., and three nieces and three nephews.
