Death of Miss Sarah P. Lyman
Miss Sarah P. Lyman died at the home of her niece, Miss Phoebe Lyman, in this city, at seven o'clock on Monday evening , as the culmination of a gradual decline. Miss Lyman was nearly seventy years of age. The funeral will be held from the residence in North Manchester tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. H.W. Tuttle officiating.
Miss Lyman was born near Le Roy, New York, January 29, 1835, and for thirty years that locality was her home. She came to Iowa with the other members of the family in 1865, living for two years on a farm north of this city, when the family removed to the homestead near Barryville, which for twenty-two years was the home place. Fifteen years ago the Misses Lyman came to Manchester where they have since resided.
Miss Lyman is survived by one brother, C.W.Lyman, of Prairie township;Three nieces, Mrs. Mattie Osborn of Provo City, Utah, Mrs. Nora McCarthy of Prairie township, and Miss Phoebe Lyman of this city; and by three nephews, Sanford Lyman of Prairie township, H.C.Lyman of Hartley, Iowa and Ward C. Lyman of Kalispell, Montana, who is now on his way to attend the funeral.
Those who enjoyed the acquaintance of Miss Lyman speak feelingly of the genuineness of her character, of the unselfish and helpful life which she lived, and of the kindly and patient disposition which she ever manifested. She had been in discouraging health for years and for the past twelve weeks had suffered untold agonies, yet throughout it all she displayed remarkable Christian fortitude and resignation. It would be cruel to wish her back upon her bed of pain, but she will be tenderly missed by those who loved her and who will carry with them through life the vivid remembrance of her gentle spirit and helpful influence.
