Funeral services for Mrs. George Davey...

Earlville, April 12, 1932...The residents of this city and surrounding community were saddened on Monday afternoon when it became known that Mrs. Geo. Davey, age 81 years, had passed away at the family home, soon after the noon hour.

Emma Augusta was the eldest of eight children, born to the late Bradford and Almira (Cory) Davey. She was born on Oct. 29th, 1850, and grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of Westtown, NY. Fifty-eight years ago, on her twenty-third birthday, she was united in marriage with George G. Davey, also of Westtown, NY. the first few years of their married life were spent on a farm in their home community. in the spring of 1877, they came to Earlville, Iowa, where for fifty-five years they have lived in the home in which she passed away. six children blessed this union, of whom, three have preceded her in death. they are Herbert, Amsey and Mrs. May Merrick. Three daughters are left with the sorrowing husband to mourn her departure. They are Mrs. Ruth Stonecipher of Earlville, Mrs. Nettie Tinkey of Cedar Falls, and Miss Ida at home. Three brothers and one sister are also left to mourn her passing: Wells Davey of Omaha, Neb., Frank Davey and Mrs. Jennie Schultz of Westtown, NY and Charles F. Davey of Earlville. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a foster son, Harry Davey, of Jesup, Iowa , and a foster granddaughter, Esther Davey, of Clinton. A large circle of nieces and nephews also survive her.

Aside from the usual infirmities which accompany one's later years, Mrs. Davey was able to be up and around, until about two weeks ago, when she sustained a fractured hip. All taht loving hands and medical skill could do, were of no avail, at the hour stated, she answered the summons, to come to the world where pain is unknown. She was a life-long member of the Methodist church, and in the earlier years of her life, was active in Sabbath School, choir and other departments of that denomination. Those who knew her best will miss a loving wife, a devoted mother, at good neighbor and a loyal friend. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family in their sorrow.

Funeral services were held at the Earlville Methodist church at two o'clock Thursday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. L. C. Smith officiated, assisted by Rev. G. W. McConkey of Edgewood.
