George Davey aged 83 yrs. died at his home at Earlville Wednesday evening after a weeks illness. His cousin, Charles Davey, died the Saturday evening previous. Both men had been residents of Earlville for many years.

George Davey, son of Graham and Julia Davey, was born in Westtown, New York, August 31. 1850 and died at his home in Earlville, September 27, 1933.

On October 29, 1873 he was united in marriage to Emma A. Davey in Greenville, New York. Three years later they moved from NY to Earlville and Mr. Davey had lived at the same residence for the past 58 yrs. Oct 29, 1932 they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Six children were born to this happy union. Three now deceased; Amzi, Mrs. Mae Merrick and Herbert. He leaves to mourn him three daughters, Mrs. Nettie Tinkey of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Ruth Stonecipher of Earlville and Ida at home, who has lovingly cared for her parents for many years, especially since her mothers death April 4, 1932. A foster son, Harry Davey, now of Jesup and a foster granddaughter Miss Esther Davey of Clinton, Iowa also survive.

For many years Mr. Davey was caretaker of the Fairview Cemetery and dug the first grave. He was a member of the Earlville ME Church for fifty-five years and was also janitor of the church for many years. In later years he was engaged in farming and gardening, as his health would permit.

Last Thursday he was taken suddenly ill and after one weeks suffering passed away very peacefully. Funeral services were held at the Earlville ME Church at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon the Rev. L C Smith local pastor officiated. A mixed quartet composed of Mr. L.C. Smith, Mrs. H. A. Berman, Ed Irmscher and Ben Holscher with Miss Maude Murley as accompanist, sang "Somewhere the Sun is Shining", "Home of the Soul", and "Home Eternal". The pall bearers were: A. E. Larson, W. I. Mille, Ben Holscher, Louis Kuehnie, W. W. Baskerville and Ernest Sawyer. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Harry Davey of Jesup, Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Hoosier of Dundee, Mr. & Mrs. Craig of Aurora, Mrs. Maude Davey of Dubuque, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Blair of Waterloo and Mrs. William Tinkey of Cedar Falls.
