Man answers last call
Earlville, 26 Sept 1933Charles Davey, Earlville resident for many years died at his home in Earlville at 6:15 Saturday evening after several weeks illness.
Charles Frederick Davey was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bradford Davey and was born 12 August 1852 at Middeltown, NY. He came to Earlville in the spring of 1871. On 26 Feb. 1880 he was united in marriage with Ella Everton. To this union five children were born, two of whom died in infancy. They were Mabel and Bertie. Mr. Davey was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Emma, Alida, Katie, Horace and Wells. Mrs. Davey died 21 April 1930. Those surviving him are a sister, Jane, a brother, Frank, and three sons, Chauncey F. of Winneconne, Wisc., Charles Reuben, and Rollin H. of Earlville and a number of grandchildren.
Mr. Davey passed away at his home in Earlville 23 Sept 1933 at the age of 81 years one month and 11 days. He followed the carpenter trade as long as his strength permitted. He was a member of the Earlville Methodist Church for 55 years and a charter Member of 100F and Rebecca Lodges of Earlville. Rev. L.C. Smith pastor of the local ME church officiated at the services. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. H. A. Bergman, Mrs. L. C. Smith, Ben Holscher and Ed Irmscher sang several selections, with Miss Lillian Kahl as accompanist. Member of the 100F Lodge were casket bearers and the lodge administered the last rites at the grave. Burial was made at the Fairview Cemetery in Earlville.
