June 4, 1964Samuel R. Young, 76, pioneer resident here and resident here since his retirement several years ago where he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Belle Crosier of 120 Clara Avenue, passed away at the Delaware County Memorial hospital Wednesday evening following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Young will be held from the Shelly funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. R. Lawrenz officiating. Burial will be made in the family lot at Oakland Cemetery.
Samuel Ross Young, son of Daniel H. and Laura Belle (Robb) Young, was born Oct. 7, 1887, on the farm of his grandparents just south of Manchester in Milo township. He moved with his parents at the age of six months to Manchester. He grew to young manhood here and received his education in the schools of Manchester and was graduated from the Manchester high school. He later attended the University of Iowa for a brief period.
He was united in marriage with Elsa Johnson on Dec. 12, 1911, at Owensville, Ind. Following their marriages they lived in Ownesville for a short time. He engaged in newspaper work and later entered the sales field for the Mergenthaler Linotype firm. He traveled extensively for them in sales work.
Following the death of his wife in 1935 he continued in sales work until his retirement several years ago when he returned to Manchester to make his home with his sister.
Mr. Young is survived by one son, Daniel H. Young of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Belle Crosier of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his wife and by his parents.
