January 1928Robert C. Currie passed away Friday, Jan 20, 1928 at 7:35 p.m. at the family home in Ryegate, Montana, at the age of 77 years. His death coming as a blessed relief after a lingering illness.
Robert, son of Robert and Agnes Currie was born at Dubuque, Sept 23, 1850, and when a small lad came to Colesburg with the family, where he resided and grew to manhood.
Feb 28, 1876 he was united in marriage with Miss Isabel Bolsinger, who survives, together with one son, John Currie of Ryegate, two daughters, Mrs. Cordel Wiltse, of Venice, Calif. and Mrs. Alba Walker of Colesburg; one granddaughter, Thelma Wiltse; one grandson, Robert Walker, one brother, John G. Currie of Butte, Mont., and one sister, Mrs. Jane L. Goodrich.
While still a young man he became interested in the pottery business. Later moving to a farm east of Colesburg, where he engaged in farming until 1899 when he and his family moved back to Colesburg. While residing here he held many offices, including that of mayor, councilman, member of the school board, and numerous others. He was one of the first stockholders of the Colesburg Creamery Company, being a faithful worker in its interest, and was also assessor of Colony township for many years.
While just a young man he became affiliated with Constellation Lodge No. 67, A. F. & A.M., and Colony Lodge No. 50, I.O.O.F., and was a charter member of both the Colesburg Rebekah Lodge, No. 428 and Minnehaha Chapter No. 344, O. E. S.
In July 1909 he with his wife and son, John, moved to Ryegate, Montana where he resided until his death. After becoming a resident of Ryegate he at once became an active citizen of that community, where he helped to institute the Ryegate Lodge, A. F. & A.M., the Isabel Currie chapter, No. 77, O. E. S., and the I. O. O. F. Lodge. He was chairman of the board of county commissioners of Golden Valley county and also held the offices of mayor and justice of peace. He was an untiring worker, always ready with heart and hand to help the needy, which won for him many warm friends, who with the bereaved family mourn this sad passing.
The remains were brought to Colesburg for interment and funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alba Walker, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Joseph C. Cleveland, officiating at the house and the Masonic order having charge of the ceremonies at the grave. Amid a profusion of beautiful blossoms that he loved so well he was laid at rest in Oak Hill cemetery.
Earnest sympathy is extended to Mrs. Currie and children in the loss of the beloved husband and father.
