The many friends of MRS. JACK BALL, daughter of MR. and MRS. L.D. WHEELER, were greatly shocked upon learning that she had passed away in Leon on last Friday evening. MRS. BALL, accompanied by her mother and sister, came to Leon two weeks ago from St. Joseph, expecting to remain here until MRS. BALL got better, but her condition was such that she grew steadily worse until the end came. Her husband, who was at Clay Center, Kansas, arrived here Sunday. Her father, who is in Canada, was unable to get here for the funeral, which was held Tuesday afternoon from the Christian Church in this city. The WHEELER family and MR. and MRS. BALL had been traveling with their own show but sold out some months ago, MR. WHEELER and MR. BALL taking positions with other companies while MRS. WHEELER and daughters went to St. Joseph, where MRS. BALL could have proper treatment. Later they decided to come on to Leon, their former home. The death of MRS. BALL is a sad one and the people of the community sympathize deeply with the bereaved ones.

OBITUARY

VERONICA, eldest daughter of LEMUEL and ELLA WHEELER, was born at Forrest City, Iowa, May l8th, l902; departed this life after a short illness at Leon, Iowa, Friday afternoon, June 24th, l92l, at 4:30 p.m., age l9 years, l month and l6 days. She was united in marriage to JACK BALL at Leon, July l6th, l920. Her illness dates back to February of this year, since which time she has been in declining health. During her illness she has received every kindness that loving hearts and kind hands could bestow.

Her life, while short indeed, measured by years, has been an active and strenuous one. She loved the art of music and was a skilled musician. Her father loved music and has given his life to the profession as instructor and leader of band music. VERONICA was an apt pupil and under his instruction became a most proficient musician. During a period of time in l9l5 and l6, MR. and MRS. WHEELER and children resided in Leon, MR. WHEELER at that time was leader of the Leon Band. Those were happy days for VERONICA, days never to be forgotten and in her illness her heart turned back to friends and friendships formed at Leon, and when her mother came to her, she said, "I want you to take me to Leon," and when her mother gave her consent, she was so pleased that she urged her mother to go immediately. The mother gladly gave up her own work, not without a great sacrifice to be with and assist and comfort her loving daughter.

On June l2, they arrived in Leon. The days following were anxious days for the loving mother, but were days of satisfaction and comfort to VERONICA. Her departure from earth scenes to be at home with God was quiet and peaceful, the spirit quietly leaving its tenement of clay to be clothed upon with immortality.
Her trust was in Jesus, her Lord, and as far as was possible with her a complete surrender on her part was made to Him who said "Let not your heart be troubled," etc. "Come unto me," "I will give you rest," etc. "For God so loved," etc. She leaves to mourn her early departure the loving mother, father, sisters, MARGUERITE and GWENDOLYN, husband, of Eldora, and MRS. CATHERINE KEPHART, of Manchester, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon, June 28, l92l, at 2 p.m., conducted by P.H. Green. The floral gifts were very appropriate and beautiful. Hymns were sung by a trio as follows:
Helen Gammill, Garry Saylor, Will Hutchinson, Ollie Foxworthy, pianist. The pall bearers were: Louis Elwell, Ed Farquhar, Chas. Horn, C.B. Simpson, Ancil Mitchell, Fred Marvin.
