WILLIAM L. FLETCHER was born November 25, l846, in Indiana, and died at the home of his son, O.O. FLETCHER, two and a half miles from Van Wert, May l7, l92l, being at the time of his death 74 years, 5 months and l7 days old. He moved to Decatur County in l856 and has lived in and near Decatur ever since.

He was married to MISS SOPHRONIA HOLMES in l869. To this union were born five children: HARRY D. FLETCHER, of Ione, Ore.; CALVIN H., of Pasadena, Calif.; ORA O., of Van Wert, Iowa; and WILLIAM H., of Grand River. One child having died in infancy. His wife preceded him to the great beyond July 30, l9ll. Since her death he has made his home with his children.

While not a member of any church, his life was an example of a true Christian. He was always ready and willing to help others and always put other's pleasure before his own. He never spoke evil of others and was esteemed and respected by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his departure four sons, fourteen grandchildren, whom he loved; one great grandchild, two sisters and two brothers, as follows: MRS. MARY OLMESTEAD, of Walla Walla, Washington; MRS. MARGARET VAUGHN, of Arlington, Kansas; MADISON FLETCHER, of Lamar, Colo.; NATHAN FLETCHER, of Texas. There is a vacancy that never can be filled but the Heavenly Father who careth for His children doeth all things well.

Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Episcopal Church of Decatur, conducted by the Rev. Robert Comyn and burial in the Decatur Cemetery.
