Decatur County Journal
Thursday, April 2l, l92lCHARLES THOMAS HAGAN, son of JAMES A. HAGAN and wife, was born in Washington county, Kentucky, January l7th, l849. In l854, his parents moved to Illinois where they remained until he was about 7 years old and then moved to Harrison County, Mo. where he grew to manhood. On December 24th, l878, he was united in marriage to MISS DOLLY CHAMBERS, of Cainsville, Mo. To this union were born five sons and one daughter; ORA, ORVIL, BENNY, MERLE, WILLIAM and HARVEY, ORVIL HAGAN and MRS. MERLE LANDPHAIR having preceded their father to that better land to await his coming. MRS. HAGAN, the faithful companion and wife, with ORA, BENNY, WILLIAM and HARVEY, and their families, one brother, JAMES R. HAGAN, of Pleasanton, Ia., five sisters, MRS. ELLEN BROMAN, Princeton, Mo., MRS. ELISHA WILLIS, of North Dakota, MRS. ELIZABETH SHARFEL BUSH, Maryville, Mo., MRS. LEONA WILLIS, Cainsville, Mo., MRS. MINNIE HAMILTON, of Kansas, and an unumerable host of friends are left to mourn the departure of husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
About the year l90l, he was converted to Christ and united with the Riverview Baptist Church, during the Pastorate of Rev. Cyrus Deo, and continued his membership there to the end. He was also a member of the Masonic Order in good fellowship at Pleasanton. He, with his faithful wife and family, resided on his farm home in Harrison County, Mo., where they successfully engaged in grain and live stock production until seven years ago. On account of his despairing health he left the farm and went to Pleasanton, Iowa, where he lived in his comfortable home until the 5th day of April, l92l, when he departed this life. The end came peacefully and he desired to go so as to be absent from the suffering body and be present with the Lord.
Uncle TOM, as most everyone addressed him, has made a life record all will do well to pattern after. He has been successful in his chosen life's work. He was a kind husband, father and neighbor and has given to this country a legacy in the children he left. That means a perpetuation of his name and a blessing to humanity that the world is so much in need of, and appreciates so much. He was 72 years, 2 months and l9 days old on the day of his death. In loving fellowship we all resign our fate and our will unto the will of our loving Savior, who cares for all, realizing our love is the increase of our Lord's Kingdom, and that God will take care of him whom he invites to come up higher, good and faithful servant.
--A FRIEND.
