Thursday, March 3l, l92lHELEN FINDLEY DAILEY was born Feb. l3th, l869, in Leon, Iowa, and was the eldest daughter of JOHN P. and JENNIE MILLER FINDLEY. Here she grew up and attended the public school until she was fourteen, when she went to attend the Ottumwa Convent. She stayed here for two years, and then returned to Leon and finished the high school course. She then decided to take the course in the Shenandoah Normal School, from where she gained her certificate, and commenced several years of teaching. Then she went to the Quincy Business College, and from here she was called to teach in Cleveland, Ohio. She was elected to teach in the Aurora, Illinois, Business College and taught here for several years, which was her final position as a teacher.
She manifested remarkable efficiency in the society of the Daughters of Veterans, and was alected to the position of Vice President and was to be elected to the Presidency of the Illinois Department in May of this year. She also became a strong and effective worker in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and organized a Chapter in Aurora, and held position of Regent for six years, then being given the position of State Registrar which she occupied during the last year. She enjoyed the distinguished honor of organizing the Leon Chapter of the G.A.R.'s, and many other chapters. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Society, and the Rebecca's. During her adolescent years she joined membership in the Presbyterian Church and remained a faithful member. She became attracted in geneological research and won quite a reputation by her work and study in the science of genealogy. She was suddenly taken sick while in Chicago and tho all was done for her in the West Side Hospital, all efforts proved futile, and she died on March 2lst, l92l.
HELEN FINDLEY DAILEY was one of those rare choice characters, whom to know was to admire. She possesses that indefinable fragrance which won friends for her wherever she went, and she exemplified the Spirit of the Divine Master in making her Christianity so practical that she was constantly ministering in philanthropic kindness to those who were unfortunate. She was one of the World's noble and aggressive toilers, whom it was a pleasure to be associated with. She leaves many relatives, and a host of friends and admirers to mourn her loss. And the soft, sweet memories of her virtues will long linger like the twilight hues, when the bright sun has set.
A large floral tribute representing the dove of peace adorns the casket from the Rebecca's of Aurora. Another from the State Conference of Illinois, displaying Easter lillies, five from the different tents of the P.E.O.'s and others from individual friends. The funeral services were held in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Layton, conducted by Rev. Jervis and the interment was made in the Leon Cemetery.
