Thursday, June l7, l920JAMES NELSON, son of ANDREW and ANNA STILL, was born in Hamilton Township, Decatur County, Iowa, April 30, l855, and died at his late home in Eden Township, June 9, l920. He has been a great sufferer for several months. When medical skill could do nothing in relief he bore his suffering with patience and Christian fortitude and often expressed his desire to go to his reward where he could enjoy sweet rest.
He was converted and united with the New Salem Church in l883, where he has always remained closely associated with the church and was true to the cause of Jesus Christ. He was united in marriage to ELIZABETH JANE SHIRLEY, December l0, l876. To this union eight children were born, all living: ALVIN STILL, of Leon; ALMA OSBORN, of Davis City; LANDES STILL, of Leon; ANGA WALLER, of Leon; WILLIAM STILL, of Doniphan, Nebraska; ALICE MARBLE, of Ackley, Minn.; NONA CRAIG, of Ackley, Minn.; EARL STILL, of Leon. All of those residing near here were with him until the last.
He lived in Iowa all of his life except one year in Harrison County, Missouri, and two years in Adams County, Nebraska. Besides his wife and eight children he leaves twenty-two grandchildren and two brothers and five sisters to mourn his death. One of the largest crowds attended his funeral and burial that has assembled at New Salem for a long time. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dale and he was laid to rest in New Salem Cemetery.
