Thursday, April 8, l920A cloud of the deepest sorrow settled over Pleasanton and vicinity Monday afternoon when it was learned that MISS HAZEL STUTEVILLE, daughter of MR. and MRS. F.M. STUTEVILLE, northwest of town, had died in a hospital in Chicago where she had been operated on for appendicitis. MR. and MRS. STUTEVILLE went to Chicago the last of last week in response to a telegram announcing the serious illness of the daughter, and they arrived home Wednesday noon with her dead body.
HAZEL ESTHER STUTEVILLE, daughter of MR. and MRS. F.M. STUTEVILLE, was born November 25th, l894, on the home farm south of Davis City, in Decatur County, Iowa, and departed this life in Chicago, Ill., March 29th, l920, age 25 years, 4 months and 9 days. HAZEL was converted in early childhood and united with the Riverview Baptist Church. She lived a consistent Christian life and was a blessing to all who knew her.
Deceased was about 25 years old and a graduate of the Pleasanton Schools, being of the class of l9l3. GROVER and DOROTHY TYE and GEORGE YOUNGS being of the same class. She was an industrious student and rated high in all her studies, at school and wrote the class history of her graduate class. She was also a graduate from the Leon High School and one of Decatur County's successful school teachers for a few years, but for the past three years she was employed with the Fargo Express Company at Chicago. The Express Company was anxious to express to her parents of her kind, loving disposition and trustworthiness in their work which was shown by the beautiful floral offering of her many friends. In the last hours she was happy in Jesus and saying to her father, "Papa, the battle is fought and the victory is won."
She leaves to mourn her death, kind and loving father and mother, three brothers and three sisters, besides a host of other relatives and friends. She was of an unusual amiable and sunny disposition, cheerful and jolly as the day was long, which made her a great favorite of all who knew her and her passing away is sincerely mourned by the entire community. Peace to her sleeping dust.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at one o'clock in the C.U. Church and was largely attended. Rev. Flute Walker, of Princeton, conducting the services and interment was made in the Hamilton Cemetery.
