Lottie Fern Gatenby, the only daughter of Fred S. and Ida Lucille (McCormick) Gatenby, was born August 13, 1900, at Orchard, Nebraska. She departed this life July 22, 1990, at the Decatur County hospital, Leon, Iowa.
All of Lottie's early years were spent in north-central Nebraska. She was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when a young girl and remained a faithful member during her lifetime.
Lottie married Frank Konopasek on November 13, 1919. Five children were born to this union: Leona, LeRoy, Dalen (who died April 25, 1943), Doyle, and Larry.
She and Frank moved their family to the Lone Rock vicinity in January 1941 and farmed in that neighborhood until 1960, when they retired and came to make their home in Lamoni, Iowa.
Preceding Lottie in death were her parents; her husband Frank in 1985, son Dalen Jay, 3 grandchildren, brother Floyd Gatenby and wife Mary, 6 brothers-in-law, and 2 sisters-in-law.
She will be greatly missed by her children: Leona Grass and husband, Arnold of Tekamah, Nebraska; LeRoy and wife Nina of Lamoni; Doyle and wife Joan of Kellerton, Iowa: and Larry and wife Joann of Davis City, Iowa, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; 5 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; one cousin, Mattie Ferris of Colome, South Dakota; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 24, 1990, at the Lamoni RLDS Church with Elders Leslie W. Kohlman and Charles 0. Snethen officiating. Burial was In Rose Hill Cemetery at Lamoni. Arrangements were made through the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Lamoni.
