Frank Anton Konopasek, the eldest son of Joseph and Barbara Konopasek, was born June 7, 1896, in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He died January 25, 1985, at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and was 88 years, 7 months, and 18 days old.
He came with his family to the United States at the age of three. His parents settled with their family in north-central Nebraska where he grew to manhood.
Frank married Lottie Gatenby on November 13, 1919. Five children were born to this union; Leona Grass and husband Arnold of Tekamah, Nebraska, LeRoy and wife Nina of Lamoni, Iowa, Dalen who passed away April 25, 1943, Doyle and wife Joan of Kellerton, Iowa, and Larry and wife Joann of Davis City, Iowa.
He moved his family to this vicinity in January 1941 and was a farmer until he moved to Lamoni in late 1960. For several years he helped numerous farmers with odd jobs and worked for the packing plant at Lamoni.
Frank was a World War I veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in March 1925.
Besides his wife and four children, he is survived by four brothers; Tony of San Francisco, California, Rudy of Verdigree, Nebraska, James of Hot Springs, South Dakota, and Stanley of North Bend, Oregon. Two sisters, Emma Tvrs of Hay Springs, Neb., and Mary Uhlman of Kennewick, Washington. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Frank will be sadly missed by all his family as well as his many friends who enjoyed his visits and pleasant disposition.
Funeral services were held at the RLDS Church in Lamoni, Iowa, Monday, January 28, 1985, with arrangements being made by Slade and Duerr Funeral Home, and Elders Robert Hynden and Clayton Henry officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Lamoni.
