Doris Powell Stevenson, daughter of Reverend Phillip and Golda Johnston Powell, was born July 3, 1923, at Brooklyn, Ill., and passed away on January 1, 1979, at the lowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Doris attended high school in Nauvoo, She was married on November 25, 1942, to Leo Stevenson with whom she had graduated from high school in Nauvoo. Leo entered the U.S. Navy in April 1943, and Doris accompanied him to Pennsylvania and to California when he was stationed there. She stayed with her parents when he was stationed overseas.

Doris and Leo lived in Nauvoo from 1946 until 1951, at which time they moved to a farm southwest of Lamoni. They farmed until 1954 when they moved to town and bought the dry cleaners. She and Leo operated the cleaners until 1971.

Doris was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in September of 1952. Doris was a kind and affectionate wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a genuine love and concern for others.

Preceding her in death was her father in 1950.

Survivors include her husband. Leo; one son, Phillip and wife, Sherry, Lamoni: and daughter, Dorothy Stevenson, Casper, Wyo.; 3 grandchildren, Kelly, Chris, and Heather Stevenson, Lamoni; her mother, Goldie Powell, Nauvoo, Ill., 3 brothers: Gail, Rushville, Ill.; Bernard, Shobonier, Ill.; Hamilton, Hobbs. New Mex.; one twin sister. Dorothy Grant, Nauvoo, and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Services under the direction of the Lamoni Funeral Home were held from the Lamoni RLDS Church on January 4 with Elders Robert B. Hynden and Leonard Boswell officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
