Mrs. Nellie Hansen died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Nelson, on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 1918. She lacked but twenty-two days of being eighty years old.

She was born in Stavanger county, Norway, April 6, 1838, and came with her parents to America in 1843. They located at Ottawa, Illinois, and there she was married to Peter Hansen, November 1855, when she was past seventeen years. They lived in Ottawa and Leland, Illinois, and then went to Delaware county, Iowa, and later to Cedar Rapids. From there to Lamoni in 1883. Here Mr. Hansen died in 1902.

Of seven children the first died in infancy. Four of the other six grew to manhood and womanhood, then four died, namely William, Melvin, Alma, and Dorcas, the latter as the wife of Hiram Harder. Those now living are Mrs. Carrie R. Nelson of Lamoni and John H. of southern Missouri.

In her early life, she believed that the ordinances of the gospel and the authority to baptize had been restored from heaven and was thus baptized on August 2, 1868, by Elder Thomas Hougas, and she continued in this faith to the end.

Services were held on Saturday afternoon at Mr. Nelson’s, John Smith in charge, and H.A. Stebbins preaching the sermon.
