JOHN MARTIAL MUSE was born April 29, l84l, in Clarke County, Virginia, and departed this life September l4, l9l6, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and l6 days. He was the son of WARNER and MARTHA MUSE, both of whom have preceded him in death.

In early life he moved to Ohio and from there to Jefferson County, Iowa. At the age of 27 he was united in marriage to REBECCA JANE STEWART and to this union five children were born, MRS. E.J. SWOPE, MRS. C.P. SWOPE and FRED MUSE, all of Leon, RALPH, of Akron, Ohio, and WALTER, of Des Moines, Iowa, all of whom were present to mourn their loss. There were seven grandchildren, four of whom are living, six sisters and three brothers, all of whom have departed this life, except two brothers, one in Nebraska and the other in Corydon, Iowa.

MR. MUSE moved to Decatur County in l862 and united with the Christian Church of Leon in l866. During the last few years his health has caused him to be absent from the church services but his faith in God held fast. Just a short time before his death he said that he was ready to go and meet his Savior face to face. Though he had been sick a number of years he was not bedfast only about two weeks.

Though we on earth feel a great loss, the loved ones gone beyond are rejoicing at his coming.
