Decatur County Journal
Thursday, September 7, l9l6

JACOB BELVEL, known as "Uncle JAKE" BELVEL, of Lineville, fell from the rear end of a cook shack belonging to a threshing outfit last Thursday afternoon in an unconscious condition and remained in a comatose state until his death the following evening. It is not known whether his death was from the accident as it is possible that he was struck by a truck wheeled wagon attached to the cook shack, or from natural causes, as the old man was almost eighty-two years of age. He was partially blind and had had the misfortune to meet with an accident many years ago which resulted in the loss of his right foot. MR. BELVEL was born in Ohio but at the age of nineteen made the long trip to California, crossing the plains and mountains with ox, teams and remained there thirty-seven years. He came back to this community about twenty-five years ago and was well known throughout the entire county.
