JOHN J. GERRINGER was born in Holmes County, Ohio, January 28, l828. He departed this life at his home in Riley Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, July l3, l9l6, having reached the good old age of 88 years, 5 months and 20 days.

He was married to DOROTHY AYRES in Knox County, Ohio, on the fifth day of March, l854. To this union were born eleven children, nine of whom are still living. They are A.W., of Lucern, Mo., H.D., of Axtell, Mont., E.A., of Gettysburg, S.D., MRS. EMMA NEWMAN, of Leon, Iowa; B.N. of Mount Ayr, MRS. ANNA BILLINGTON, of Leon, GEORGE, WILL and A.A., all of Kellerton.

His parents were German; belonging to the German Lutheran Church, who had him springkled in infancy. In his mature days he learned the Adventist Faith, though he never identified himself with any church or fraternal organization. He believed in the Christian religion and was known as an industrious and upright man.

MR. GERRINGER's health had been failing ever since his wife's death, about two years ago, and many times did he express a desire to go when his Master called. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, having the respect and love of all who knew him and will be sadly missed by them. There is a vacancy in the home of GRANDPA GERRINGER that can never be filled; but with great satisfaction we can think of that great reunion of loved ones on the great resurrection day.

Besides his children he leaves twenty-four grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren besides his unnumbered friends to mourn his departure, yet we do not mourn as those who have no hope as we have the reassuring message of the great Master. "Let not your heart be troubled;" "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth on Me though he die, yet shall he live."

Grandpa, Dear departed love
In thy place of blissful rest
See the hearts for thee that mourn,
Hear the groans that rend our breasts.

The services were held in the Mt. Zion M.E. Church and conducted by the Rev. B.R. VanDyke, of Kellerton, after which the remains were lovingly deposited by the side of his lifelong companion in the adjoining cemetery.
