JOHN E. BRIGHT, an old and well known citizen of this vicinity, whose probable fatal illness had been noted in these columns, died on Sunday evening at the home of his daughter, MRS. EARNEST GATLIFF, three miles west of Lineville. He had been in poor health for a year or two, but was stricken several weeks ago with a fatal and incurable malady and was taken to the home of his daughter, where he was tenderly cared for and all that was possible to medical skill was done for his relief, but without avail and the end came as above stated.

The deceased had a multitude of friends in this section and was an honest and ueful citizen and a true friend and clever neighbor. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon and the burial was at the Yingling Cemetery west of Lineville by the side of his wife,
who preceded him several years ago to that haven of dreamless sleep and eternal rest.

JOHN H. BRIGHT was born in Virginia, Sept. 26, l852, and moved with his parents to Decatur County, Iowa, in l857 and during the same year moved to Mercer County, Mo., where he spent most of his life since. He died at the home of his daughter, MRS. EARNEST GATLIFF, west of Lineville in Decatur County, Iowa, July l0, l9l6, aged 63 years, 9 months and l4 days. He was married to MARTHA WILLIAMS in l875 and to this union seven children were born, of whom four are still living as follows: MARION BRIGHT and MRS. ETTA GATLIFF of this vicinity, MRS. IDA DRAKE, of Ottumwa, Iowa; and MRS. FANNIE ROBERTS, of Allison, Iowa. The wife and three children preceded him to the Great Beyond.
