Thursday, June 29, l9l6SUSAN J. EARLY, seventy years of age and for many years a resident of Mercer County, died at her home in Kansas City, Wednesday, June l4, after an illness of a few days' duration.
Funeral services were held at the home in Kansas City, June l5, after which the remains were transferred to Mercer, and on June l6, services were conducted at the EARLY Cemetery by W.E. Kaucman, after which she was buried by the side of her husband, who had preceded her to the other world a little over a year ago.
SUSAN J. WELLS was born in Whitley County, Kentucky, October 5, l845. In the year l856 she came with her parents to Mercer County, Mo., settling in Marion Township, near where the town of Mercer now is. She was married to JOHN G. EARLY, February l5, l863. To them were born ten children, five of which still live--T.R., RUBY and OPAL EARLY, of Kansas City; MRS. E.J. EGGLESTON, of Mercer, Mo., and MRS. I.C. SHEETS, of Yale, Iowa.
Several years ago they moved from their farm, south of Mercer, to Lineville, Iowa, then later to Leon, Iowa; from there to Independence, Mo., and in l906 moved to Kansas City where they have since lived, and where after an illness of five days she passed away June l4th, l9l6, being 70 years, 8 months and 9 days old. She was a member of the Christian Church from early life. She first united with the class at the EARLY School House, later moving her membership to Independence, Mo., where she retained it the rest of her life, which was a consistent one, exemplifying the life of her Savior in no small way.
She was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother and a true friend, who will be greatly missed by the many who knew her.
