Thursday, June 8, l9l6ROBERT PETER BICKNELL was born October l6, l834, near Philadelphia, Penn., and departed this life June 4, l9l6, at his home in Pleasanton, Iowa, age 8l years, 7 months and 20 days. He was united in marriage to ELVIRA POND BRADLEY, July 2, l857, at Galva, Ill. To this union eleven children were born, seven of whom have preceded him in death. Besides the aged widow, he leaves three daughters, a son, l7 grandchildren and five great grandchildren to mourn his death. The children living are MRS. J.N. ESTES, of Pleasanton, MRS. NELLIE BEACH, of Lineville, MRS. I.M. LOVETT, of Lineville, and J.W. BICKNELL, of Alliance, Nebraska.
Early in life MR. BICKNELL united with the Methodist Church. He was one of the pioneer residents of Decatur County having resided here for over fifty years.
The funeral services were held at the home Monday, June 5th, Rev. Salyards, assisted by Rev. M. Turpen, being in charge. Interment was made in the Hamilton Cemetery.
MR. BICKNELL has been prominent in the affairs of the county throughout the many years of his residence in our community. He was loved and respected by all. He was ever ready to extend a helping hand to those in need. The family mourn the departure of a loving husband and father and people of Pleasanton and Decatur County a loyal citizen and a true friend.
