Funeral services for Mary Edith Sears Baker, 84, who died Monday in a San Luis Obispo hospital, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Reis Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Clarence Brubaker of the Laton Church of Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in San Luis Obispo.

Mrs. Baker was a native of Leon, Iowa, attended Pella Teachers College in Pella, Iowa, and taught for six years. She married Vern Kier, who died in 1922.

She remarried to John Baker, who died in 1961. In 1935 Baker and his family had moved to California, and lived in the Hanford area many years, operating a general store. Two years ago, Mrs. Baker went to San Luis Obispo to live with her daughter, Mrs. Mildred Townsend, University of California home advisor for the county.

She is survied by five step children:L Mrs. Willard Tuttle of Culver City, Mrs. Fred Van Laar of Grand River, Iowa, Frank Baker of Culver City, Ralph Baker of Wheatland, Wyo., and Mrs.(Mr.) Sherman Baker of Grand River, Iowa; a sister Mrs. Walter Snyder of Leon, Iowa; and a brother Grover Sears of Great Falls, Mont. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
