SUSAN JOSEPHINE SMITH was born at
Boonesburro, Maryland, February 22nd,
l840, and died at her home in Leon, Iowa,
February l0th, l9l6, at the
age of 75 years, ll months and l8 days. She
was united in marriage to
THEODORE H. SMITH in l86l. To this union
five children were born:
CHARLES E., of Mt. Morris, Illinois; WILLIAM
K., B. FRANK and MRS. FRAN
MARSHALL, of Leon, Iowa, and MOLLIE E., who
with the husband, preceded
her to the spirit world.

She, with her family, came to Illinois in
l898, settling in Mt. Morris,
where they lived eleven years then to Maxwell
County, Iowa, in l903 and
to Leon in l906. She was converted and
united with the Church of the
Brethren in early life, of which church she
remained a member until the
time of her death.

She leaves to mourn her departure three sons,
one daughter, twenty-four
grandchildren, six great grandchildren and
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Brethren
Church at Leon, conducted by
A.L. Sears, assisted by F.A. Garber.
Interment in the Leon Cemetery.
